I like your idea - cant see much in the way of the taxidermy work, so am not going to comment on that - As far as the base compostion goes - lose the skull (if that's what it is) and perhaps next time you can bring the animals closer together so that when a person looks at it there is not a big empty hole in the middle of the scene (space between the cat and the raccoon). Perhaps this could be done by bringing the cat up on a lower limb than the raccon is on.
just some thoughts.
