Beginner turkey

Just finishing up my first turkey and have a couple of questions. First, I wasn't planning on painting the legs but would like to preserve the exterior natural color without giving it much shine. Any recommended coatings? I was considering using white glue/water mix and painting it on. Also, I tried injecting a glue/Preserve It mix into the legs with an 18 gauge needle and it was too thick so I diluted it down with a lot of Preserve It to get it to work (~75% Preserve It).

The other question I have is how do you keep the neck skin and feathers from getting messed up by the caulk around the neck area? I was following the Morris method in the Breakthrough Magazines.
Thanks.

I don't usually paint my turkey legs unless they dry really dark. I think they always look better natural. I do spary them with a heavy coat of sealer and then a few good coats of Hydromist Satin Topcoat.

As far as caulk, the best advice is to be very careful with it. I HATE caulk because I always seem to get some on the feathers. I do use it my turkeys, but you can mount a turkey with no caulk and get good results.
I have found Windex works good for removing caulk...before it dries. After the caulk dries, I don't know how to remove it.
