The first deer that I did, I used the mounting kit from Van Dyke's. It is a basic kit with the form and all (about $65.00) I think. You can get everything cheaper by buying in bulk, but, that is what I started with. I would also get a video.
Just my 2 cents.

Done right...

With a commercial tan here is what you can estimate:

Form= $36.00
Tan= $38.00
Ears= $6.00
Eyes= $10.00

Plus clay, needles thread, paste. You can figure around $100 per deer. Not including shipping costs.

i do not have the cape from the original deer so how much do you think it will cost to buy a tanned cape

It depends on the size and quality. You might expect to pay as little as 50 or 60 bucks or as much as 150. Start small.

Whitetail

Since I am out west, i hardly ever get a chance to mount whitetails. Last year I wanted to mount one for fun so I bought a rack off of ebay for $15, and a small tanned cape off of a taxidermist here and paid $45, but that was a deal. Small capes are cheaper.

okay good

the antlers from the whitetail buck i shot here in montana are a small 2 X 1 antlers and the base of the antlers are small so it needs to be a small cape
