I have two sets of bison horns that are peeling and faded. What's the best way to make them look good again?Should they be sanded, painted, stained?Thank you for any replies.

We had a bison skull come in for cleaning in the same shape you described. The horns were peeling and pretty weather-beaten. I began the process by shaving off the big stuff that was peeling up with a knife, then started sanding with coarse grit sand paper on the orbital sander. After the big stuff was knocked down, I changed to medium grit and sanded them further. Lastly, I switched to fine grit and had them pretty smooth and even all the way around. I then washed all of the dust off of them and left them to dry. I coated them with WD-40 as a final step which brings out the natural colors, but doesn't blacken them. They turned out very well for the shape they were in when we got them. Hope that helps!
