potter clay

Hi All I have been been buying my clay dry in bulk becase it is cheaper. My question is how do you guys mix it? I have been doing it by hand mashing it between my fingers someone must have a better way.Thanks Jerry

by hand and rubber gloves

I do the same thing.But what works for me or you doesnt always coincide with what others do. I personally prefer useing the by hand and rubber glove methoud. its just easier for me to see what consistancy i want . Best of luck.Ray


Best way to mix

I use to be a potter in school. I mixed the clay the same way. There is just not a better way to mix it unless you have a commercial machine. After you mix it the best thing to do is to use a slab of plaster and place the clay on the plaster. You can continue to hand mix and nead the clay on the plaster if you want. The plaster slab (pour plaster of paris in a large flat aluminum pan 1 to 2 inches thick) will suck the water out of the clay and bring it to a more workable consistancy in no time. Try it.
