I left the autobody field over 10 years ago, back then we used new product, a urethane patch to repair holes/cracks on corvettes and other non steel(saturn)cars, they were light activated (you form it it stays rigid then sit in sunlight for 15 minutes and viola' rock hard with just a little flex)
I was doing a deer the other day that had old shredded ears one smaller than the other nicked scarred lots of natural character, I considerd body filler but the hair was realy short and my job would look lousy with short hair, I'm not soo good at that, but I thought if I could secure some of those repair pannels they would be perfect because if you stay out of direct light/heat you can work with it for 20 minutes or so trimming and shaping it to just the perfect ear you could even build the butts in at any angle your heart desired and they are designed to accept primer and paint.
I can't for the life of me remember who manufactured them or what they were called I think they cost about 30.00 for 1 sq foot (in 1993) but for their usefullness in just the right spot they would be well worth it. plastic ears dont trim as easily or taper so smoothly as I would like. I could think of several times when I wanted just such a thing.
I called the supplier I used to buy from and the 16 year old kid on the phone had no clue what I was talking about. has anyone used this or even heard of it? they seem to me to be a 3M or Bose product possibly even evercoat? its been so long and they were a new technology back then, I only used them twice. They may not have sold well because of the cost. discontinued. I'm sure some bodymen or painters out there.

Not sure exactly what your product was, but sounds similar to the "H-form" material sold by Jonas etc. It is a plastic type material covered in cheese cloth type material. You warm it up, form it, and when it cools it is hard again. Worth a look if you have never tried it.
