Preserving snake skin for future use

I friend of mine killed and skinned a snake yesterday. He eventually wants to have it made into a belt (or something). He was just going to hang the skin outside - but I told him I thought it would just rot or get eaten by animals/insects. I further told him that I thought he had to treat it with salt, or some solution first - but I was not sure. He wanted me to check for him to see what he has to do to preserve it from rotting, etc. until he can have a pro make it into something.

Any/all help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Freeze it

Best thing for your friend to do is to put the skin in a bag and freeze it ASAP. Then he can decide on where to bring it without having the skin spoil on him before hand.
