Whiting and sealing deer horns?

Hi I have some experience in doing some of my own taxidermy mounts. I found a shed antler while hunting this weekend and plan on trying to do some woodburning into the horn. My question is the side that was on the ground has the darker brown look to it is their a way to lighten it back up to match the rest of the horn? And also after I am done would it be a good ideal or possible to seal the horn with a laquer or something or would that not really be needed or wise thanks in advance for any help

Hi I don't know how much help I'll be, but I was wondering if you have ever woodburned antlers before. If so, I would like to hear how you do it. I have been doing woodburnings for quite a few years. I tried to do it on a shed moose antler and I didn't have the patience, I guess my woodburner doesn't get hot enough. As far as a finish on it, I have used chalk and paints on antlers and then sealed with some spray acrylic sealer.

Never tried

Hi Ive never tried woodburing an antler. This is the first time that I will try it. Im gonna try to do some roses and butterflies and ivy vines all around the horn. Hopefully it will work cuz I want to give it to my girlfriend. Im gonna get a nice woodburner and do some practicing and see how it goes.
