Hey George, I asked a question the other day about how thin to go on a buffalo cape[bison]. Well today my first experience on fleshing the bull. BOY! what a job it took me right at 8hrs.to totaly flesh the hide, i new it was going to be tough but i got threw it.just to think i have a really huge bull a 15 year old bull to do next i'm a glutton for punishment i guess Thanks for your advice ED...

Shortly after telling you that, I got in an Asian water buffalo. It had been 10 or 15 years since I was stupid enough to tackle one of them and I thought, "Maybe it wasn't as hard as I remember". Well, 12 hours of fleshing and shaving, 3 days in the pickle, 8 more hours of shaving, back in the pickle for a day, another 3 hours shaving, I've pared a 65 pound hide down to about 10 pounds now and every bone in my body aches. If I EVER get that stupid again, I can only hope someone shoots me and puts me out of my misery.
that's what they make tanneries for. Let them do all the shaving. LOL
