When using DP, which is often, It tends to fall off the hide, and I fear that some areas are not being covered, but it is too late because it gets sewn up. Anyone else have this problem? Is it a concern, will my mounts rot? Also, The Dp with the wet hide makes a paste that is messy and gets on the fur, water takes it off, but is there a better way?

Many of the DP recipes include too much talc and it will clot up on a wet hide. I changed over to Bess Maid by Touchstone 25 years ago and it's still the very best out there. It's not the superfine mixture of many others.
Now, some advice. When you're ready to DP your hide, towel it off to insure the hide is just TACKY, not wet. Use rubber gloves (ALWAYS when using DP as it will cause dermititis. You should also wear a dust mask if you use that stuff with excess talc to protect your lungs. You know it will DP your lung tissue as well as the deer, don't you?)and rub the DP into the hide much like you do salt. That insures it "sticking". Back when I used it on deer, it was also great to use during fleshing and shaving as it dried the surface and prevent it from slipping around as you tried to shave it off.

i always seak up 'both ends' and fill inside with dp and then tumble - it drives the dp into the skin somehow - you can put in a ton and none will come back out after tumbling
What is dermititis again?
after u tumble it and powder with DP....roll it up and place in the refidgerrator over nite and it will sweat the DP into the skin better ....then powder again and mount.
