Being new to birds, I'm not exactly sure what they are. I think I know, but I was wondering if anybody had a good descriptive definition or a good picture to give me. Thanks

Birds are animals with a back bone and they are warm blooded. They reproduce by laying eggs. Most fly , but not all. Some have only vestigual wings. and cannot fly. Some young birds are dependant on their parents and others may be independant from the time they hatch.
The distinguishing characteristic however, is, They have feathers. Only birds have feathers. Lots of pictures on the internet.

Pin feathers, or blood feathers, are immature, growing feathers, protected by a sheath of keratin.
When you see one, you will know it. It will look like a quill instead of a feather.
Hope this helps.
