I have a bobcat that is tanned and ready to mount. I was just doing alittle final fleshing on the face and legs and noticed that when i turned the legs right side out that some of the hair was starting to pull off. I tried to turn them back a easy as i could. There is a couple small spots on both front legs and then a few small spots in the armpit areas.would applying stop rot to those areas help tighten up the skin or is the hair just gonna keep on pulling off.

apply some of the stop rot to those areas and handle the skin very carefully when you pull the hide over the mannikin. Be careful not to overwork the skin as you mount it. Adjust your hairpattern and leave it at that. Do not groom the cat after mounting but rather let it dry first and then groom it. Once the hair is dry the skin will tighten up and hold the hair in place. Just be careful when you groom it up and don't pull on the hair. Your cat should be fine.
But Stop Rot is not the cure all for hair already slipping. You could try stop slip. Also I have used formaldehyde with ok results on slipping fox hair (muzzle) But the formaldehyde is dangerous. Just be careful like Evelynn mentioned and hope for the best.

It was brought it to my attention that it looks like I was slamming Stop Rot. That is not true. I love Stop Rot and Use it quite often on my deer and also fish prevervation. I do not in any way want to imply it is not good for the purpose mentioned in the above post. I just have never tried it for this purpose. I use it to try and prevent slippage problems before tanning. Sorry Glen if it looks like I was slamming Stop Rot.
