Last weekend I killed two 4 foot rattle snakes and a 5 footer I skinned them fleshed them pinned them to a board and salted them. This morning I removed all of the salt and mixed borax and neats foot oil togather until thick then applied it to the hide. Will this work? Any help will be greatly appreciated. KRB

But the answer would have been "NO", it won't "tan" the hide.
Thes wild ass concotions come from? I probally get at least 2 calls a month asking about tanning snakes with everything from borax and antifreeze to burnt oil, heck had on guy ask if i thought diesel fuel would preseve it. dude heres your sign!
come from the Wild Ass Concoction Store and they are really cheap! LOL! KRB you might try to wash the skins out and re-salt them. Throw the borax and the neatsfoot oil out the window. Buy Rittels snake tan or EZ 100. I use EZ 100 for snakes and it works great after pickling for a couple of hours. This makes real leather out of the skin. I use the snake leather for longbow backing to protect the sinew.
