Antelope Horns

I am getting ready to do a European Mount on a Antelope head. My question is: Do Antelope shed their horn like deer or do I have to boil the horns and remove the outer horns to expose the bone core and remove the thin layer of meat?
Your info would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

The antelope have a shell with a membrane on the inside that needs to come out. I have found that if you can fit them in the microwave, it does a quick job and they pop right off. You can also seal them up good in a garbage bag and rot them for awhile and they come off, Or boil them. Hope that helps.

I boil them and then scrape the core clean. I pack the horns with preservative until they have dryed and then reset them on the core with bondo. I also take a hacksaw and score the core just below the horns prior to removing them. This will allow you to put the horns back on the core at the exact distance they were originally. I also measure the distance between the tips so that they are also accurate with their spread. I also give the horns a good cleaning with liquid Old English or Liquid Gold.
