1st Mulie and 1st Elk

This will be the start of my second season of doing taxidermy for customers. I am self taught and have completed 26 whitetail mounts to date.

Friends just brought me 2 elk and a mulie from a recent trip.

I am guessing that they are very similiar to a whitetail as far as mounting goes.....I was just wondering if there are any big differences that you can warn me about.

I did notice when I caped the mulie last night that the tear ducts are MUCH deeper than a whitetail. (Is that wax that is all balled up in there?)

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

The process is basically the same unless you start detaching antlers. However, get and use some good ref, take notes and plent of measurements. My work started improving way back when I started listening and started using ref.

I have some good ref pics of both elk and mule deer that I can share with you. Got to your local book stores, they often have excellent ref books in their bargin bins.

Make some ref casts before you skin them using alginate or plaster.
