Preserving a Shed Elk An tler

I found a nice 6 point elk antler shed while bow hunting in Montana 2 weeks ago and would like to know if there's anything I can do to make it look better. It has been bleached by the sun, but other than that, it looks good. I've been told to use linseed oil, but I've also heard that this isn't correct. Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Thanks ... David

Click the orange SEARCH icon and type in "staining bleached antlers". It's all in there but will probably take you some while to get it all.

Whoever told you not to use linseed oil is badly misinformed. A combination fo 50/50 turpentine/linseed oil will give old antlers back their original tone and timbre. I'd still recommend staining the antler like the archives suggest and use the oils as the last step.

Thanks Much, George
