I have two colonies which I keep in large rubber maid totes. I figured give or take my colony numbers to be around the 200 - 300 level just a guess. It still takes about 1 week for a deer or bear skull to be cleaned. It has taken me about a year to establish these numbers. They need a lot of care as well, so as far as just buying some and throwing them in with a skull, it will take more than that. I was under the immpression that this many bugs would eat through a bear in a few days but due to the fact that I still need bigger numbers it is always going to take a week or so. I am currently doing a 71 1/2" Alaska bull moose and it has been in there for a month so far and they still have some work to do. This means keeping them at 70 to 80 degrees and watering them every day or so.
