Hi all, i got my first tape, American taxidermy online, i liked the tape he did a pretty good job of showing the little details . and fixing lots of kinds of mistakes.
but one big question i have is when he put the cape on the form the ears were loose and all he did was stablize them until dry. then the hide held them in place. ive seen on some sites they use clay for that. ? i cant wait to try a head myself just wanted to know how you all mount the ears to the form? thanks Donna

Hi Donna I have a lot of luck with taking a single strand of light fishing line and using a needle push the string through the tips of the ears and tie the line in a circle at the desired distance that you want the ears positioned at and then let them dry. I then take some cement glue and put a light coat on the inside of the ears to give the ears that extra suport.

you must replace the muscle mass that you removed - most of us use clay but all of us use SOMETHING

absolutely most people like to use clay but I enjoy to remove the muscle mass and replace it with glue and packing foam to give it that extra sturdy and strong. then I will run cement glue on the in side of the ears to keep the ears in the shape that I want them. I also use the light weight fishing line to keep the ears in the position that I want them. then after the ears are sturdy and where I like them I just cut the fishing line and remove it. The process is then done.
