removing dried hide on deer skull

I have an old deer skull that only had about 3/4 of the hide removed. What is left of the hide is very tough and seems like it is glued to the bone. I would like to do a european mount to this skull but I am not sure how to remove the hide.

If you scroll down in the same category (about 40 / 50)I had the same problem. It's a little more direct, and will save you some time.

I just read the post the Bill was talking about and there wasn't a whole lotta info there.

Best thing to do is soak that skull. As it's very old it isn't going to smell even 1/3 as much as a fresh skull. To get the process started, put it in HOT water, from there get an aquarium heater and keep it at 85 degrees. LEAVE it alone for a few weeks, if the smell does start to get bad, dump about 3/4 of the water and replace, this will take care of the smell.

I cleaned skulls for 2 years in an apartment spare bedroom and was able to control the smell and come out with great skulls. I've done all sorts of messed up skulls too, dried out, set in grease, bullet holes, etc etc.

If you've got any other questions, email me.
