From What I've read, it seems that Krowtan is the simplest way to go.
But are there any faults to using it?

No shelf life, excess shrinkage without oiling, cannot use standalone to do soft-tanning (need a tanning oil for that) and any other pitfalls you may find with any alum tan/taw.
If you're tanning and then immediately freezing (wet tan/frozen) to mount later, or immediately mounting on a form, then the only issues that will bug you are those of cracking and/or shrinking down the road.
I dont want to use it if its gonna crack..or shrink down the road..
Whats the best tan to use then?
if you do on the cover is a mount done by Rick Carter
its a beautiful mount and i believe it won the North American
champion with the krowtann 2000
there has been a lot of this and a lot of that said about
the krowtann process over the last couple of years
there are some pretty upstanding taxidermist using and praising this stuff
ive done quite a few but im nobody special
me and George had a exchange recently on another post
and George said he truly hopes this stuff does not end up hurting the industry because of a alum. issue
we really dont know how much alum. is in it anyway
it may only be a token amount
but i hope with WASCO putting their reputation as well as Rick Carter
and my customers that this stuff will take the walk of time well
time will judge
and WASCO and all who endorsed it will be judged(me included)

I've been using Krowtan for a few years. Haven't had any problems with cracking. As far shrinking goes, thin your hides well and that won't be a broblem either. BP
ever read the msds for this stuff?
Handle it with all possible caution!
The same with all your chemicals!
I can't spell. That should be "problem" not "broblem". LOL (too much eggnog hehe).
