cost of materials

Going to school in Feb. But have to do a business plan for finanial assistance before I go. WAs wondering how to figure the cost of materials on a deer mount? I know the price of form,eyes, ear liners,But what about chemicals paint etc.?

charge $20 per mount to cover pins, paint, paper towels, ect..I am changing that to 10% next year. I would suggest getting the Breakthrough
business manual. It will help you more than anything. Get it from WASCO, www.taxidermy.com

When I did my plan for Voc Rehab. That is what I used. But that also depends on what you are charging.

Don't forget there is a net cost (the materials for that one mount) and gross costs. Gross cost would include the cost of all the tools you have and the general studio overhead costs; phone, rent, garbage, etc. Also do not forget wage and Profit and depreciation costs. Also tax and office costs. Most taxidermist only look at the material and tanning and think wow I am going to make X dollars over that! BIG MISTAKE and "THE" reason for the high turnover in this business.
