Cleaning Dry Preservative and Hide Paste from fur

I recently mounted a bobcat using dry preservative. While mounting, some of the dry preservative I was using mixed with a little moisture and formed a paste. Now that it's dry, the paste is pretty hard and doesn't want to brush out very easily. It will however, eventually brush out. My question is this: Can a damp rag with a small amount of Baby shampoo be used at this point to clean the fur as long as I don't get the hide soaked? Please, no wise cracks or put downs, only helpful information. Thanks.

I routinely shampoo and rinse cats after they are mounted. The fur always looks better.Shampoo, towell it off then blow dry and groom. It won't hurt a thing. You may have to let it dry a couple more days for it to be completely dry again. It takes a long time to re-hydrate something from the ouside so the skin won't soften much. You will be surprised how much better the hair looks.Good luck.

Thanks

That is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks.
