If i were to use DP, would it be necessary to to thin the cape?

I've read that pickling makes it swell. So, would Krowtann make it swell also?

How do you measure when not shaving? I imagine that you pull the tape very tight around neck?

Why Not

Just measure the hide after its taken off? That way you know what form to buy.

And if you tan a hide, why not jsut measure it after you tan the hide and then you can't order the wrong form.

What you need to do using dp is to flesh the cape well removing all meat fat and membrain, no shaving with a round wheel or you will do alot of sewing. Turn the face fleshing well. You are working with a raw or green skin as its called so don't over stretch the cape for measuring, dp hides will shrink alot causing a not so professional look to say the least. Soak in dp mix, tumble or towel dry, rub on dp and mount. That's how a dp mount goes together. Yes pickleing plumps up the cape for shaving but if your using dp its not necessary.

all these years i thought dp was junk, now i know its the methods involved that make these mounts so terrible!
