My first experience with Freezer Burn

Just finished skinning out my first mink and everything went well except for some freezer burn. The lips and nose are ROCK HARD.

I've researched the archives a bit and read that I need to soak it or inject water with a small syringe, etc.

My question.....it there a point when the freezer burn is just too bad?

...or should I just have faith in the soaking/injecting techniques?

Anything that is freezer burn that bad should resolve itself when you brush Stop Rot on it. You should apply it to the skin several times; put in refrigerator in plastic bag for overnight and then inspect to see if it needs another application.

This usually resolves any freezer burn.

Just a few weeks ago I re-hydrated a deer cape that was 10 yrs in the freezer. So hard that I couldn't move it. Soaked it in water with a few cups of salt and 48 hrs later it was soft. Over night in the frig and put it in the tan the next day. Yes there was a chance of slipping, but I had nothing to lose.

dawn and water, soap releases the surface tention of water and allows it to soak in better......
