I am planning on a red fox for my first mount.Standing on all fours slight turn to left. Following advice from this forum. Purchased 6 video's watched them all 4 times. One of the video's mounting a coon he cuts from vent to chest and another video shows to cut from vent to chest and up all 4 legs on a mountain lion. Are these called dorsal and ventral cuts? I have trapped for years and only know one way to skin and thats for the strecher . What cut would you advise for my first mount so I would not have to remove legs on form to get skin on or would that be easier than a bunch of sewing. Also one video will show you to take all your measurement before skinning and some say to take it on the carcas except nose to eye. I find some of it a little confusing thanks in advance!

A dorsal cut involves cutting from the base of the skull down the middle of the back to the base of the tail. For your standing fox mount this is the best way. You will stil have to make cuts on the legs as the feet are larger than the legs and can't be pulled thorugh. Putting a dorsal cut skin on a standing for is like putting on a pair of pants. You may still have to cut the head off, but that is an easy job.
