want to learn

I want to learn taxidermy but I have 5 kids and a limited income But I want to learn the right way.Was hopeing to learn from a expert but dont think I can afford what can I do and do the books or videos do justice? I live in clarksville Iowa and its close to Waterloo wuold there be any one out there willing to teach reasonable in that area? thanks Tim

plus alot of practice. This will help. Go to seminars and join your state association. You can get unlimited knowledge on this website and find used books and videos in the for sale catagory. Good Luck

Start off small. Try a squirrel first. Then after you see how bad it looks do another one. LOL Sorry, but mine was horrible. I naver wanted to do deer head, but after 20 years they are what I do most and they make the payments on my new ride.... The videos are helpful but stop and look at any mounts you see. FS


still learning myself

I was fotunate enough to sit in @ our local taxidermist who decided to retire after 26 yrs in the business full time.I learned alot that way.Joined the state and national taxidermy assos went to South Dakota this last summer and attended the local conventions as well for seminars!Looking forward to Billings this summer.I took the advice of several taxidermists that said to start out small which I did. Keep working on improving my mounts by practice, practice and more practice!I also make good use of research button read posts and get more practice specimens.Good Luck and persistance pays off (sometimes)
