Submitted by kris on 1/23/06 at 7:40 PM. ( nevillekris@yahoo.com ) 24.2.117.239

i was wandering when the game warden/dnr officer makes a suprise visit you have to show documentation that all animals in your shop was legally taken right. The question it does this also pertain what is maounted already such as s your displays and stuff waiting to be picked up by customer? Has anybody had this happen? I'm just starting and wandering the ins and outs of a inspection. Fines can be costly.
AND PLEASE I HAVE READ THIS SITE EVERYDAY FOR MONTHS NOW I DID LOOK IN THE ORANGE BUTTON AND FOUND NOTHING SO IF YOU HAVE NO GOOD ANSWER FOR THIS MOVE ALONG.

the best people to contact is the Ohio DNR. In Illinois you have to keep the tags with the animal even when it is mounted. Good Luck. Dan Hudzik

Chris,
When you are inspected by state here in NC hey just want to see your records. Make sure you have their name, address, phonenumber, their hunting picense number/permit number, date the animal was taken and where it was taken. I have all my customers sign the workorder/receipt. Your animals in the freezer needto have a tag stating whose it is, what it is ("Whitetail deer, male), so they can match up the animal with the paperwork. Here (so far) they have only been interested in my paperwork and I have offered for them to look in my freezers but they just look at what I have out and are working on or on the wall. Plus if somehting (god forbid) happens to me and I have 5 animals on the wall they are all tagged so customers can get what is theirs and not someone elses. Here they have a failure to comply notie which just means you had an error and now you know how to do it right. But next time it is a fine. FS

Ohio Requires. You will have to fill out a wild animal report. You can get them from your local game warden. If it is in your shop, in any stage of completion It needs to be on a report, The report provides space for date in, and date out. Items you retain will not have a date out filled in. as They are not out. However you need only keep these records for 2 years. However, The law reads that the Bones Antlers Hide and hair of a deer must be accompanied by a tag stating the name, And Address of the person you got it from, and the date and place of kill. Until such time as the parts are rendered into the final product. Basicity this would mean A completed mount need not have a tag accompanying it. But I would make sure it was at one time on your report. by the way EVERY wild animal needs to go on the report. This means fish, birds, turtles, snakes, Everything.

Forrest Sue

I am a newbie in NC and the form they sent me from wildlife to keep up with the animals mounted doesnt have a place to put Lic # or tag # on it. From memory it has the following: species, sex, person delivering, person who harvested, where harvested, date of harvest . Thats it. This was from memory I dont have sheet in front of me. Do they want to see license # and Tag # also? They really need to include that on log sheet if they do. Im not certain I have the tag # or license # on some.

Here, the obligation is on the hunters. I really feel sorry for some of you guys. I don't know how you keep up with all that crap. Ducks and geese are bad enough, I can't imagine having to keep up with foxes, rabbits, squirrels and deer like that.

I just got checked a couple of weeks ago. I was out checking my traps but my wife showed them where everything was at. I did not get any tickets but I did have three coyote skulls in the freezer that I had pulled out of some customer's work. The gave me a "verbal" warning because these were not tagged. I also had three OF MY OWN squirrels that I had just shot and put in the freezer the day before. They did not like it because these were not tagged either. Everything else was tagged and logged, etc. I consider my self lucky to not have had any tickets issued. Bottom line - Tag and log EVERYTHING immediately - Even your own stuff. I am now keeping a separate log book of customer's stuff and another one with my personal stuff.

Hope this helps,

Why are they looking in your freezers?

This response submitted by Craig on 1/24/06 at 2:52 AM. ( ) 66.66.236.195

Did they have a warrant?

Don't need one in Arkansas

This response submitted by Mark on 1/24/06 at 9:09 AM. ( ) 70.242.239.224

They just have to think your doing wrong. Since they don't need a warrent the police use them to there advantage, if you know what I mean.

Do you live in America?

If so there is no such thing as unwarranted searches unless you give them permission.

I don'tknow about warrants in NC, but I work for Dept of Ag and check pesticide application records & storage. My credentials state I have authority (LOL) AllI have seen with sate wildlife is badge, uniform & gun. But I amlegal so they can look in my freezers if they want.
Swampfoot: I may have started doing that because of Federal records. But I want to SEE their license INCLUDING the duck stamp. So I make my own recordbook. When they come and check they always say "We have recordsheets you can copy." And they always give me some but I don't write all that down again. The same info is on my records.

I belive

the reason for this is becuse of the drug problem here in the state. MANT ,MANY meth labs have been found by the game and fish. As far as I am concerned they can come to my place anytime and look I have nothing to hide.
