Bird hides are preserved with Dry Preservative or borax. Bird "tanning" chemicals are basically a rip off and do no more than those cheaper methods I named.

Thank you George

Finally someone said it. Some of the so called bird tanning kits are nothing but rubbing alcohol. Some of the best bird taxidermists use nothing but a degreaser/cleaner, tumble dry then borax. The degreaser/cleaners work pretty good for removing blood stains, or you can just remove fat and wash in a light cold water/dish detergent mix and work the rest with a toothbrush. DO NOT use gas white gas or anything like it, sorry George I beat you to it?
