Dirty feathers

A family member has a craft item with white feathers which are dirty and stained. The feathers cover cardboard. How do I clean them without getting the item wet? Thanks to all for your time, Dave

Being as you have provided not clue as to what the feathers are attached too, this may or may not work, and it may not work either way, but it is worth a shot. In a large spray bottle (about 20-24oz) fill completely with cool water and mix in 1 teaspoon of Dawn dishwashing liquid. Agitate gently. Here is the catch - IF the feathers can be gently pulled forward off of the item they are attached too, pull saran wrap or other protective wrap behind the feathers to protect whatever the feathers are mounted against. Layer as needed to protect the article. If this works, lihgtly mist the water / Dawn mixture to wet the feathers down. Using a SOFT damp cloth, gently stroke the feathers upwards and outwards. If this succeeds in removing the the staining change out the dishwater int he spray bottle with cool clean water and mist the feathers again to rinse the soap mixture off. (You may have to do this a couple of times) After you believe you have an adequate rinse, with a soft towel, lightly and gently pat the feathers as dry as possible. They will look terrible. After patting the majority of the moisture off, use a hair dryer, preferrably WITH NO HEAT, or max, low heat and stay back about 8 to 10 inches and blow dry the feathers. It will take a while, but will dry the feathers. Again, there is NO GUARANTEE that this will work being as I do not know what type of feathers, what they are on ect, ect, but this is what I would try. Someone else may have a better idea, but either way, good luck!
Mac
