NEGATIVITY on the forum

I have noticed alot of animosity toward other people on this forum. From personal experience I haf found this forum an excellet source of knowledge. There are so may invaluable bits of information here!

However, I have noticed too that there are alot of people who treat newer people poorly. I cant believe some of the stuff they say.

Not every person in gifted with the ability to read the archives all day, or even find them on thier first few tries. As fellow users, shouldnt we be thier guides and help them rather than bring them down?

From personal experience, I have had a few who treated me very badly! Just because a question is simple does not make a person stupid or a loser or lame. Learning is all about questions! If we never asked, we would never learn

Even if we read every book in the taxidermy industry, we cant all learn the neat little tricks of the trade that printed matter just does not make available! Some people have great ideas! Some have feedback on products that suppliers never tell you!

Some problems cant be found in the archives, and if I know taxidermists, we dont have loads of time to try and searh the archives all day for an answer. Sometimes we need a quick answer.

And does it really hurt to help someone out? Who cares if thier lazy? It does not break my back to be nice or helpful to those in need. If I can offer help, I do it! I wont shrivel up and blow away!

I just cant understand why some people have to be rude and disrepectful. I am not saying everyone is, just that there are those few turds in the bucket that have to drag everyone down. Cutting down other people is the sign of a real loser. Insecure and negative.

As a fairly new taxidermist, there have been a few comments made that really turned me off the desire to do the work. But if I did give up, those jerks would win. Tehy would succeed in bringing me down to thier level! I cant permit that! I love taxidermy, just as much as I love breathing! I dont care if the questions asked are stupid, lame, or unclear! I will continue to ask them, find them in the archives or help others with thiers. It does not hurt me, nor does it hurt anyone else.

We all had to start somewhere! Lets try and give the newbies a break. We were like them once.

People like you. You come on here with a made up screen name and no email address. How gutless do some people have to be to voice their opinions and never want to be held accountable for it? Then you post it in TWO different categories though the website asked you specifically not to.

I look at the category posts as to where they are made in and I make a conscious effort never to "slam" anyone in the BEGINNERS section. I try to give all of them some kind of answer when others ignore their STUPID questions. And YES there are STUPID QUESTIONS because the world is cursed with STUPID PEOPLE. Stupid people ignore signposts, like he ones on this site that ask you "What do you want to know" and the "SEARCH" icon that had to be tinted orange so it would stand out. Still STUPID PEOPLE ask redundant STUPID QUESTIONS that have been asked hundreds of times before on here. STUPID PEOPLE using DSL lines don't realize that their TCP/IP address is constant and yours tracks back to "raindragonlyn@yahoo.com".

Every answer you get here should be a gem in saving you time and money. Not that those of us who answer have any expectations of gratitude, but it would seem that, even in today's world, every once in awhile a BEGINNER would be grateful enough to add a simple "Thank You". That's seldom the case.

The best way to incite negativity is to play fast and loose with anonymity and shotgun aspersions. If you have a gripe, put a name to it, but then have the guts to put YOUR NAME to it as well. You may not get the response you wished for, but at least the person or persons you took a cheap shot at won't feel like they're fighting shadows.

..you've been at least boiling skulls for the last 3 years. So why don't you be who you are. You know who I am. You know Dave Toms, Bill Yox, Rick Carter,Cecil Baird, Paul Czarnecki, Gary Bruch, several of the Paul's and Tenbears. Those are most of the regulars here and we act like adults in using our names. That's what happens when you visit an industry website versus a chatroom where you don't WANT to be known. Come on out of the closet and join us. You might get treated differently.

My name is not Easton, I'm Easton's brother, i use the same computer he does and he's in charge of all the ordering stuff so he uses his real name. All I do is try to find information. If you must know my real name is Jake, but I like using the name furhunter or furtrapper because I don't feel like I need to post my real name to gather information. Furhunter/Furtrapper is just easier to remember for other people I guess. I don't want to sound angry or anything, but I'd like to ask. Okay, I guess you've been following my posts. Since I have been boiling skulls for a while I guess I'm not much of a beginner in that area. But when it comes to mounting actual hide and horns, I'm not that experienced. My name is Easton Brown. I guess you already know that I live in North Dakota. I don't post my e-mail because It is kind of messed up. I can send e-mail, but I haven't been able to receive anything. I have bought 2 red fox skulls and a badger from this sight so far. ..that the people who mean anything to taxidermy have real names and pride themselves in what they say. In all the years I've been here, few people that are still here ever play that "screen name" game. "Q" thinks she/he has proven a point in her/his favor, but all they've done is verify what I'm telling you. You can't be taken too seriously if you won't accept accountability. If you scoll over to the "Current Events", you see another gutless wonder wants to intimidate me, but not to the point he/she identifies themselves. If Bill Yox tells you that a nictating membrane, are you going to have any doubts about it. What if "Q" gave you the exact same information? Id' bet you'd want to verify it, wouldn't you? and I didn't "HAVE TO KNOW" your name, but do you see how effortlessly conversation can flow if you HAVE a name instead of a shadow in an alley?

And Q, I don't send "harassing" emails and I post my address at least once on every thread I respond to. I'd bet in the last 5 years, I've gotten less than 6 nasty emails, all of which led to friendships except one gutless wonder who SENT me a nasty email and blocked my replying to it (as you've probably already done. Right?)

Q take what you can from this site that will make you a better taxidermist and forget those things and people that piss you off. Taxidermy should be something you love to do, if your in it to please people your in the wrong business. Can't please everyone. Take what advice you can to assist your learning and let the rest roll off your.
Look at the bright side, at least you live in a country where you can tell someone to f___ off.

The reason for not putting an email address up is that I get spammed. Spam spam spam. I hate spam. And every time I use my email address I get three or four different emails asking me if I want a new ink cartridge or if I need a degree in something.

Thats why I dont use my email address on line as freely as most users. Its like junk mail piling up in the waste basket. And spamblockers dont work. They filter out even emails I do want. So I dont use them. THe address you posted as mine is a waste basket email. I check it now and again, but it is not my personal address.

The reason I would say harassing is that when people see emails posted, they freely use them, whether it is you or some stranger from another country. Has anyone seen the post

Well that is exactly what I am avoiding.

I found this forum under a search for product uses. Anyone can find it and use personal information. I dont blame people for not wanting to give thier names or thier addresses. Maybe you dont ahve that problem George, but I dont post emails for that reason.

As for the negativity issue. It is people who cant take the critisizm in the first place that post nasty messages. Maybe thay have a little shame that they are harboring. i dont know, but I personally have observed many problems on this site. It took me about 2 days to finally learn the site and where all the little gizmos and buttons are.

But newbies sometimes need a little push.

George, if you think I was talking about you to begin with, you are wrong. But yet you took offense. I dont understand that. If you are not to blame for stuff thats fine, but there are those who cant be nice.

People say that this place is a place of learning, but there are the closed minded who lash back in mean ways like saying key words such as:


"Duh"
"Its called the SEARCH button"
"Dont ask stupid questions"
"Stop wasting our time, genius"
"Quit wasting the forum space" (like there is a limited space here)
"let me type it out for you, one word at a time."
"I'll explain it more clearly, one word a minute, nice and slow, to accomidate your low IQ"

These among others are put down phrases.

Who cares if people dont get it the first time. Some peoples learning curve is alot different (*expecting a put down comment on that*) Does not make them stupid. heck Einstien couldnt talk til he was four. Look how he turned out!

By no means George am I talking about you, but if you are offended by my opinions of the negative people, maybe you should be. If negativity is something you like to see here, more power to you. But is it necessary? Thats all I am asking.

Does it hurt to be nice? To be civil? After all we are all adults.

But then again George, I have noticed you seem to enjoy a good debate. Which can be refreshing and fun. I have seen you go head first and some of your opinions I agree with. But put downs are not necessary.

Outbursts and lashbacks, thats just uncalled for, especially if someone is not talking about you. If I had a problem with a specific person, I would name them by name and take it up with them. I was not though, I was talking about all negative people, in general.

Itsd up to the reader to decide what catagory they are in and what to do about it. Even if it is posting a comeback.

Hi George I have been reading this forum for quite a while now and have noticed you apear to be one of the dominant supliers of information so I would not want to make you or anyone else upset. So I just was wondering if you have any disrespect for me on how I post,
I post under the name natures preserve because this is going to be the name of my taxidermy studio this fall, I use the same name for everything my email, ordering supplies, hunting club BB ,and so on but I always sign the bottom of my posts with my name.I am not gutless or anything like that I am just proud of that name and hope some day that name will apear in print. I don't however include my e-mail adress because I get enough crap emails from african diplomats wanting money and other nut jobs.
Any way just don't want to lose face before I get a chance to even aquire it.

I'd challenge anyone to find me "putting anyone down" for NOT using a real name or an email as long as they aren't slinging crap. You answer questions, you help people, you won't see me saying anything. But this "Q" thing has always been a sticking point with me. Sure I'm opinionated, but I put my name out there for anyone to take a swipe at. That's MY decision and if I get whacked a few times, so be it. I asked for it. But when I find the demeanor of the posting to be directed towards me (and you're right, if I posted less, I probably wouldn't take such anonymity personally), I strike back since I'm no longer dealing with a "person" who takes pride in ownership of what he or she says.

Teddy Roosevelt said this: "It is not the critic who count; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, ow where the doer of deeds could have done them better. the redit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, and comes up short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shorcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotion, who spend himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achieventmen, and who at the worse, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly so the his place shall never be with thos cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."

That's probably one of the longest sentences you'll ever see, but it has some very strong emotions tied to it. I don't pretend to be such a warrior, but I do ignore that "critic" who shoots from the dark. The analogy of about brokering peace is not very well thought out. The dove may well be a sign of peace, but name me a single country who has the dove as its national symbol. A dove builds a haphazard nest at best, often useing the crotch of a tree instead, while a hawk or eagle will pick a big strong tree and build a fortress for a nest to protect his family. Historically, peace only comes from the threat of strenght. Israel exists while surrounded by enormous amounts of land filled with people seeking their destruction and taking that small spit of land from them while doing it. When the English decided "just to live peacefully", Hitler almost destroyed them. When America wanted to stay out of Japans affairs in 1941, Japan took it as a sign of weakness and attacked. Only strenght preserves peace and strength always has a name. I'm not a dove and not afraid to step up to voice my PERSONAL opinion on an issue if I have one. Now that's just me and I live and sleep well with that. You're entitled to your own devices that make you happy. And I assure you, its NOT PERSONAL. It's perception.

Very well spoke George. But also, do you see those who can satnd for themselves picking fights? Or insulting the weak? And should not the Stronger man respect the weaker man for stepping into the arena to become as great? Do you disillusion those who look up to the ones who are great and aspire to be as great as them? For those who try to fight in the area, sure, only the strong will survive, but those who do attampt it, instead of bowing out before the fight begins, should be given respect for trying. To have tried and lost is far greater than to had never tried at all.

I say give the newbies a break. They are doing the best they can. Those who dont have the guts to keep up, will fall behind and never be known, but there are those who genuinly strive and no matter what, will keep doing what it takes to gain that Holy Grail. And we should not disrespect them for that. We should help them and give them respect.

Newcomers that are miles away from anybody here, in their own home, behind a computer, safe and sound, let some words on a screen drive them away or hurt their feelings. In addition, why do they think that everybody goes to church and only nice people should be allowed here? When you deal with the public, you get all kinds, and you deal with it. If you cannot deal with real people that are not like you, go back to mommy. You will find here refined and polished men and women, and people ruff as sand paper. You will find quite people, and loud ones. You will find some women here that can dish it out too! If you need information, who cares who gives it when you need it.

There is no way someone new to taxidermy can get awnsers easier, better, or cheaper than to visit this site. If you can't take it here, how are you gonna take it when you have done your best for a customer mount, only to have it criticized. I've been a taxidermist for a long, long time, yet recently I had a channel catfish reproduction returned to me twice over nit picky stuff. I wanted to tell the guy I didn't charge a competition price for it, but I gracefully took it and altered according to his picky a$$ wishes. My wife is a college professer. In these times, a school does everything short of giving away grades to keep student retention high. It pi$$es both of us off. When we were in college, you had X number of days to miss a class. After that, you could pack your bags and go home to momma. Now teachers are asked to provide extra credit work, give bonus points, counsel, cuddle, whatever. My wife only has 300 students per semester. How much time does she have for this nonsense.
Same here. Either use the resources at hand, follow instructions at the opening window of the forum, or go figure it out on your own. If you cannot tolerate this site, then go to eBay and but a set of lessons from the Northwestern School of Taxidermy, don't ask any questions from anybody, and you will see what those of us who have been in taxidermy a while were up against when we stated.

do, then yes I would say you are still a beginner at that as well. Boiling is horrible for skulls, which has been covered on this SITE for numerous years.
This post seems to have turned into a cry baby/complaint post. Oh sorry, I may have just hurt someone's feelings. We wonder why the world is going to crap, people can't take any thing these days. Come on people, there is a real world out there and it isn't always nice. Everyone has to be treated "special". Now everyone be nice because it's wrong or rude to speak the truth. GEEEEEEE!
Chris I don't see anything wrong with the statements you posted above that people say. Obviously they work because they get your attention and as far as helping newbies? This forum is full of help, why help those who do not want to help themselves by SEARCHING and doing a little homework first. Everyone just seems to want the quick answer. Where would most of these people be if it wasn't for this forum? What if most had to learn like some of the older guys. Some of us have learned through hard knocks, some of us paid to go to schools, and even the guy/gal that has screwed up mount after mount just trying to get one to turn out right, paying to go to shows so you can go to the seminars or even compete (learn), seems to me we have helped ourselves and done our homework, but how many times can the question(s) be asked. Where do I start?; How do I skin a cat? What is the best tan?; DP or tan a hide?; Where can I get tools?; How do I measure my critter?;What animal should I start with?; Should I boil a skull or not?; Help?; I need help fast?; What is Krowtann? I know you have seen the post where someone claims to have been doing taxidermy for years but then ask a simple "basics" type question like "I've been doing head mounts for years but why do I keep getting slippage and how do I split the lips on an animal?" PLEASE! Everyone can see the titles to the left, seems pretty self explanatory to me. If you found this site you should be able to find some answers on your own too. Maybe I just expect more out of my fellow man/woman. Can you imagine if George, Yox, Carter, Czarnecki or yes even Cecil, just to name a few, didn't post anything? I know you probably got your own opinions on things, but boiling skulls has never produced any negative results except for a few cracked teeth on predators which I easily fixed. Like i said I boil deer skulls about 5 hours and small skulls (raccoon, coyote, beaver, etc..) for 45 minutes to an hour. I then use a pressure washer to clean everything from the brain to the nasal cavity to the eyeballs. This method works really well for me and has never let me down. For those of you taking notes, After The skull is clean of all flesh I soak it in Clorox Bleach for an hour. I then let the skulls dry overnight. The next day I apply fingernail hardener (you can get in any store that sells fingernail polish). This coat of hardener leaves a smooth, glossy texture and look to the skulls. Also, some hardener is and orangish color when applied. Don't worry about that if it happens, It'll turn clear when it completely dries.

That some of the response given on here were a little harsh too. I remember the first time George whapped me. Wanted to know who the hell I was and what qualifications I had. Well, d*mn it, I just got out of taxidermy school and I knew everything. HA! Guess what? I've learned more from this site for free than I learned by spending $20,000 on schooling. If anything on this site, that is said, bugs you, then you have to be new. Anyone that has been here knows about the repetitive questions that get asked over and over again. USE THE SEARCH BUTTON should not be an insult to anyone even if it is incorporated into a sentence with the word dummy. H*ll....search "use the search button" and see what comes up. You"ll know why some people get irretable some of the times. If you can't take a little rough constructive criticism once in awile, buy a book. Then you don't have to worry about someones comments. I read here everyday. I start at the wanted and finish at taxidermy industry. Now.....What do you guys think about MOYLES ?

I dont mind a few constructive critisizms, but geez! It gets a bit uncalled for. Its like road rage in here some times. If I see a question someone asks over and over again, I ignore them.

And from what I hear MOYLES can be a bit questionable. I have heard alot of different stuff. Some good some bad. You'll see what I mean when you look them up. Good Luck!

And you're right; sitting in a room no one would tell another that was a stupid question and the reason is smarter than you I assume. I've listened to thousands of people OUTSIDE a room say, "I didn't ask that because I thought it was a stupid question". The internet removes that perception, sitter there all alone at your computer. There's no peer pressure for stupid people NOT to ask stupid questions.

It's sort of ironic how the worm turns with you. On the 16th of this month you didn't have any problem relating to a stupid persons stupid question about salting her rabbit down, now did you? Ok for me this is a place to go and relax and get a wealth of knowledge. Yes in the the archives and with the present questions. Just about every entry in most of the categories are questions, if no one were asking questions what would this website look like? I am sure that most of you have heard the phrase "there is no such thing is a stupid question". I have huge respect for ALL of the veteran taxidermists, including George, but slowly losing respect for him. Tell me why do you even have to cut anyone down if they ask "a stupid question" By the time you are done making an A** out of the guy, you could have just answered his question. You are also a hypocrit, you tell a person that he is breaking the website rules by posting a question on more than one category yet you are breaking RULES 1,4,5,and 9! You are an extremely knowledgable taxidermist George but I don't think to many people would miss your negative comments. My time is precious and I am sure everyone elses' is too, but I just get fed up listening to your Negative B.S. Have a good day.

Hey, I believe ALL who POST or respond to/on this site should ( identify themselves ) with a REAL name. The e-mail , I guess, could be optional.

I'd like to see everyone JOIN the NTA to, how many ( who use this site ) are NTA members ? The least you can do is JOIN, ( after all, look at the GOOD you get from the site ? ) If it weren't for the NTA, likely this site woiuld NOT be available to you .
How many using this site are NRA members ?

MORE THAN THAT, WE ( ALL- better THANK the WASCO ) co, for this site , they deserve a BIG award ! They deserve something like ( the GOLD information AWARD )................

Unfortunately,.there are to many people using the site who are ( TAKERS, looking for info. of all types , looking out for themselves only ! Give me a break & be a bit of a ............MENTOUR.......... Just share & be honest , or just KEEP QUIET.but Identify yourself !


asking repeat questions

I don't understand the problem with reposting an already answered question are experienced taxidermist not aloud to join unless they were here in the begining do thing not evolve does new techniques not present them selves.If you ask a question that was answered 100 times in the past but all prior to some thing that has maybe changed in the industry making there a better answer but you can't get that new answer becuase some one asked the question. What if a new taxidermist has a better answer but you can't ask the question becuase some one already did in 1999.People should be aloud to ask whatever question they want regardless of how many times it has been asked, people should still search and not just sit on there a** but if some asks the question answer it if you have something new or improved or just ignore it knowing it has already been answered to the best of your knowledge.

the apprentice? you think this is a reality site and we need to get ratings? If some peoples customer service is based on how they act here or on what they find on tv then I find it hard to believe they have any customers at all.

I am in Canada and I am not a member of the NTA but I am a member of the CTA.

I;m not a member , but i did offer to pay for Easton to join ; but it must of been to much work for him.

Can't believe it

Wow I was just surfing the varmit sites and huntin stuff when I stumbled across the bickering. The anger has even struck here too. I don't know anyone here and am not a taxidermist. Someone asked about a frozen bobcat in a contest in another category and some wingnut jumped down his throat about a simple question, then I get here and its a verbal gangbang as well. Its all over the whole country and world but you would think that there would be some sort of brotherhood with others that enjoy some of the same things that you do.I'm sorry to see it guys.
