I am having trouble with my snare.
Its made of a long wire, and its attached a long, bendy branch on a tree, and its tied to a stake on the ground, so it'll bend the branch down, but its also loose enough so it'll slip off when the animal gets its neck through it and pulls. It seems like it should work, but the problem is, animals have been walking straight through it. I found possum tracks and squirrel tracks leading up to it, and then out the other side.
I made the loop big enough so it can hopefully catch a possum, and those were definitly possum tracks going through it, but so far there's no possum in the snare. If I make the loop smaller, it seems like its too small. What should I do? I'm obviously new at this...
Any help would be greatly apreciated!

adjust the height off the ground the bottom of the loop is. when they stick their head or body in their feet will catch and trip the trigger
are using out dated methods of snaring. Don't waste your time with bending down branches/trees etc.. Get a book on modern snaring methods and materials from a trapping supply company. It will probably cost you less than $20. Also check your regulations as powered snares as you are describing may not be legal. You should study up on this a bit before you go out snarring. You need to understand what cable to use and how a snare lock works, and also proper methods for positioning and anchoring a snare. Good luck.
www.trapperman.com days and days of reading there!
Thanks for all the info!
In some states spring poles and or spring loaded snares are illegal, They are in ohio. A good book would be in order but also check your state regs.
