Storage question!

Submitted by Michael on 1/28/06 at 11:26 AM. ( oursilverado@yahoo.com ) 207.5.236.115

I have several animals and am interested in doing a beaver mount. I have it whole frozen. How long can this stay frozen and still be mountable. What is the best way for storage so it does not get freezer burned? Any help thanks... ohh by the way i am looking for long term storage like about a year!

Skin, flesh, tan

That is the only sure fire way. You can flesh real well. and place it in a vacume bag. and freeze it it will probably keep for at leasta year. but as with everything in life there are no Guarentees

No time to tan?

If you done have time to tan, there is a cool device called the Food Saver. It vaccumes the air out of the bag and seals it for freezing. No freezerburn. It also makes things smaller so that they stack easier in the freezer. You can get them most anywhere, walmart has them. Keeps thing up to 3 years in some cases! Good Luck!

Freezer storage

Michael, You can freeze critters for over a year and still mount them. Just for space saving I would measure and rough skin them and freeze without the main body but if already frozen and you have the space I would double bag them and wrap them up tightly. Ears, lips and toes may dry a bit but it's no big deal to inject a little water after thawing and then skin as usual. I have mounted a deer frozen over 3 years and 2 ducks frozen 10 years. Enjoy, Aaron H.
