I have been doing taxidermy for 5 years now and am wondering of anyone out there has information on how to run a business, last year was my first year as a "fulltime" taxidermist and I just hardly made a profit, after paying shop expenses my house payment, all the household bills and expenses (Cars ect.) putting up a 45' by 50' foot shop and taking my wife on an alaskan cruise, I guess I should be in another catagory possibly "for sale" so I can sell out. I have found out that the less you bitch the more you get done..

Seems you have all the answers. I still claim a loss. One of these days maybe we can learn something from you so we can make a profit. Thanks for the info. Dan
i like your attitude! you will be succesful!
your hands, your eyes, and your imagination in taxidermy. If you want to make money, it must be with your mental strength, and not with physical strength. What you can do with your mind is limitless, however what you can physically do with your hands each day is very limited...and it gets a heck of a lot worse with time. The real assets of taxidermy are independence and job satisfaction, not monetary achievements. Most newcomers to taxidermy see the direct cost (materials) as the only expense. They think taxidermist are getting filthy rich. In your own case you know that buildings, equipment, insurance, utilities, taxes, and promotion, are all a must for a career taxidermist.
being greedy. You kept the house out of the banks pocket, built a shop, and still were able to do the Alaska cruise. What more do you want! Keep on rolling.
