You can add paint to it, like acrylic and the color will show through. Make sure you rough up the earliners and that they fit, they'll drum for sure if the fit is too tight. I've done all my deer for the past 4 years with liners and buckeye supreme. I also wipe off the ear skin with lacquer thinner to remove any oils.
Adam, I use buckeye in the ears all the time with great results.Just make sure you get the ear turned all the way out to the edge and ruff up the earliner and you should get a great looking ear. as for tinting the hide paste, im not sure on that one.I just paint the ears.Call McKenzie and as them if you can.
thanks for your input guys. One more question what color should i add the the buckeye paste.
You can add any color you want to the buckeye hide paste. But the truth is, and it is a fact, the color is temporary. One year later the ear on the outside will look just like tanned brown leather. I tinted the ears on a copitition mount last year, and as I can see it from hear, it looks just like leather now. So you can use buckeye inside if you want to, but painting the outside is a must.
I have the comp picture, and the now picture.
there nice and pink at first
after time they will turn darker and darker
theres no getting around it you have to paint for the long term
now i have seen some very old deer with a little darker ear
thats natural
but like George said thats a case where a live deer would not get a
ribbon
