re-positioning ears

Submitted by Mike Staubs on 1/31/06 at 8:21 PM. ( ) 70.106.52.249

I have completed a mount of a whitetail deer. Most things went well thnaks to help from this site. The mount has been drying for two days. The more I look at the mount, I am not satisfied with the ear position. Is there anything I can do or am I stuck?

The clay in the ear butts should be fairly damp yet. You can wrap wet towels around the ears and back of head to soften the skin. open you stiching up. dig out the old clay and put in new clay position ears and resew. or Inject water under the skin over a day or so period of time until the clay gets pliable again. reposition as you want and let it dry. It all depends on how dry it is.

It all depends on what you used to form your ear butts with, if you used potters clay or critter clay they should still be plyable enough to re position.

Check the archives, orange button to your left <- <- . Type in something like "repositioning whitetail ears". Volumes of information. Usually, I take a wet towel and wrap it around the ears for a few days. When it's wet enough, I reposition them. Hope it helps
