What would be better for tanning a bear skin rug?

Bear skins will take a good coating of taning oil after you tan it.
Make sure you do not skimp. Let it sit with oil on it for one night and then reapply it the next day if it has all soaked in.
I would not use the liquitan, you will be using way to much to tan with. The best way is like was already said
I have used both on bears for years and have never had a problem with either one. You just have to decide which one you want to use. Two different methods here. I always use a formic acid pickle bath or a safetee acid bath and all of my hides are pickled 1st which will make a big difference no matter what you do. Some people just take liquatan and other paint on chemicals and paint it on a raw hide and call it tanned. Good Luck. Dan Hudzik
You see, I managed to grow up in a time when a "pickle" WAS a tan and this pickling you're talking about is just the flavor de jour in your world. I DON'T pickle and I'd stack my TAN up against any shop tan going. Tanned is tanned, whether you use Lutan, Krowtan, Liquitan,JRTS, or heaven help us BRAIN TAN(no pickle there either). I still say that "pickling" is a St. Christopher's medal for a tan anyway. And I'm not so sure Stop Rot won't be a better salvation if I needed it.
If all of these miracle tans were, or are so good why don't the commercial tanneries stop wasting their time, money, and man hours and just krowtan everything? Dan
