I want to remount the head only of a pine marten that I did about 2 years ago. The skin was tanned with Krowtan. What happened is that the lip line separated and got a large gap. I do not want to use expoxy since it would give the specimen a large lip line
I mounted it wrapped body with excelsior and clay for the skull
Now my question is :
do I need to add salt to the water before soaking the head or not?
How do professionals do to attach the lips if you use a wrapped body method?
Thanks
Chris

AHHH! The memories you bring back...lol. I always carved the heads for wrapped bodies out of balsa wood, and in a pinch I used clear sugar pine. (Did the same for trout bodies).Carve a slot for the lips and seal the whole thing with shellac. Now everything will stick.Just glue and pin it until dry.Putting salt in your re-hydrating water is an excellent idea. Good luck....JL
