Skinning and Salting

I had a question before I started my first squirrel... I'm going to be skinning it and then salting the hide for tanning. I was wondering if it is ok to use borax while I'm skinning it so I can get a better grip on the critter? Also once I get it skinned, do I salt it skin side out to dry or fur side out to dry?

Borax will screw your tanning pH up BIG TIME. Use corncob grit or sawdust to aid if fleshing is a problem, but whatever you do, DO NOT USE BORAX on any hide to be tanned.

Just dp

forget tanning a squirrel that is not needed just use the borax as you dry preserve that is all you will need to do
