I could not find this in the archives, so hopefully someone can reassure me that my coyote is normal. I just got done skinning my first coyote, and on the inside skin around the upper jaw and back to eye and around the lower jaw the skin is very slimmy, likes its retaining moisture. I am not sure if this is normal from the saliva pentrating into the skin, or if the mositure is part of a bruise for him getting clubbed in the knoggen(even though the fluid was clear), or if he may be sick(but he has a thick coat and otherwise appears healthy). In any of my other critters that I have skinned I have not seen this. Thanks!

Did you snare the coyote? It's normal to get a buildup of lymphatic fluid under the skin if a snared animal doesn't expire very quickly. The longer he's alive in the snare, the more of this you'll see.
Yup, he was snared...glad to hear its normal. Is there anything special that I should do to that area when I tan it to get the extra fluid out? I was also thinking of experimenting with Instant Preserve on this one, do you think that this fluid will prevent the IP from doing its job? (again I found a lot about DP and IP in the archives, but nothing with involving this fluid) Thanks again!
