OK,when doing a rug do you break the hide before mounting the head? or do you mount it stretch on a board to let it dry then break it.I have a video from Van Dykes mounting a coyote it shows to mount head then put on board to let dry,then finishing the rug but shows nothing about breaking the hide.I did a wolf rug(used liqua-tan and oiled)and after drying hide is stiff other then that it turned out great.also if you break after drying/mounting how do you go about not banging up the head. Breaking is part of the tanning procedure.It should be done before any rug work.You will have a lot better results on rugs using a commercial tannery.
