I am new to this so be kind. While skinning a squirrel foot I had a large tear in the hide just above the pads.(Sewed this up after skinning) Because I could not complete skinning of foot will something
like preserve-it injected into the foot take care of my mistake?
Also will wire with a little clay be ok for the tail instead of a
prefab tail?

will not keep it from shrinking. Anywhere the bone is left in the foot it will shrink and shrivel, as opposed to a foot properly skinned and filled with clay or epoxy. wire will be fine for the tail but I would not use clay. Wrap the wire with waxed cape thread then wrap it with cotton batting to the desired taper. the cape thread is only used to give the cotton something to grab. Its good to cut off the tail freeze and use as a reference when making the new one. Take it all as a learning experience and do not give up.
