All in favor of DP give reason why and all in favor of tanning do the same.

I was a long time DP user and now home tan everything but squirrels and rabbits. The tanned capes are easier to flesh thin and mount. They have much less shrinkage, and you don't have the worry of slippage when the job goes into extra innings for some reason. I would not go back to the DP for large animals. I've done both and would compare my DP mounts with ANYONE. DP for me. But to each his own.
......but I would choose DP over Tanning for my commercial mounts......It,s alot faster and IMO looks just as good if done right.
have used both. Never had any problems with DP, but prefer tanned hides. I like the "feel" of a tanned hide better. I send the bigger stuff to the tannery and do the small stuff myself.
No right or wrong, just whatever you're more comfortable with. It's more mounting skills, than dp or tanning, that makes a quality mount. BP
funny this question just seems to pop up from time to time.
For small mammals i tan at home.Heres a twist for bear i tan at home. For deer i do a tan and dp mix thats right but i trust the method for two reasons.Ok first i tan the face and ears no slipping and more work time.Than i dp the neck down also i use dp while i flesh the hide to the ears weird maybe but its worked well for me hope i helped.
I can't help but ask how long you have been "practicing" taxidermy, and how many mounts (deer size and up) that you have completed...thanks for the info.
