Ok Guys, Wack Away. Here is a link to where you can see my second Deer mount. I would like some input. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/icequeen1982/album?.dir=/730f

I think that since this is just your second deer mount that you did a real good job. Now when I take a good look at it I noticed that the right eye is open more than the left eye and I am not sure but are these two diffeent type of eyes or is it just the reflection off the glass eye. You might want to concentrate on your sculpting a little bit more on your eyes. Your painting technique should have a smoothness and better blending to it. But, it's still a good mount overall.
Just keep those reference's available and look real hard at them. Yeah, I know it's difficult but just stick to your guns and you'll make it. Good luck and start that third mount real soon.

That looks really good for your second. I don't see anything wrong with it from the pics.

Thanks guys, The eyes are Joe Meder eyes and they are the same. I think it is the lighting in my shop. The blending thing I think you are refering to is the lower lip? I don't know what you mean? And I am trying to start a mule deer but I just got seriously shafted on a hide and have to try and either fix it or something. The guy refused to make good for it.
Nancy I think you did an excellent job! If I could have gotten my eyelids to look that good I would have been happier but I had a rather uncooperative hide. The only think that looked weird to me was it looked like the hide was bunched a little to much in the wrinkles(right on the bottom) It could just be the way the shadows were playing though. I think you did an excellent job though! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Jess. One of the pics in my album is a reference pic. Actually I tried to make the eyes exactly like the ref pic. I can see what you mean about the wrinkles but they are not there. It is a shadow play. I know what needs work on this mount and hopefully the next will be even better. Always room for improvement. Thanks for the boost in confidence. I wanted to do a harder pose like an open mouth but my teacher said one step at a time grasshopper! I am a lot like you. I want to jump in with "Both" feet. LOL I would love to hear from you. Drop me a line sometime
If you want some good, honest critique submit your picture to critic's corner on www.hidetanning.net. This is a great site to learn stuff and there is a section called critic's corner that people will write in and critique your mounts. One of my mounts is on there and people have given me alot of useful input.
