Euorpean Boar Skull Problem

Hi.I have a boar skull I was doing a european skull with.Iv tried everything to get oit to turn white but its not working.I think my last mistake was I put it in bleach water. Its all white except for about 20% of it is brownish to dark brown.Of course after taking it out of the bleach water,it dried out and has a few little hairline cracks. The guy im doing it for says he wants it white but not painted white. My question is,even though its dried out with a couple of hairline cracks ,can I sumerge it in water with Oxy Clean to get it whiter or will that make it crack worse.Any other suggestions on getting it whiter would be greatly appreciated.Like I said before, other than the 20% of brown areas it looks great. Thanks

Did you say you used bleach? NEVER use bleach, peroxide is your cure.I will tell you the best place to get peroxide is at a hairdresers wholesailer, you can buy a gallon for around $10.00, and thats 50% duluted. just mix it with equal parts water sit back and watch it turn white I have done hundereds of skulls this way. Good luck

And don't forget the tusks !

You have to give em a root-canal, and then be sure to pour epoxie down till thier full, this will avoid cracking later. I do all my Russian boar like that.

Boar skull cleaning problem

broilerboss, Hog skulls are especially challenging to get clean. The problem lies in the top rear of the skull which holds a lot of oil. This area will not usually just bleach white and if the bone does whiten the grease will just surface later. You have to degrease this area completely or you end up with a white skull with a yellowish edge. I would guess that you boiled the skull which can make the problem worse as well as cause cracking of teeth and bone. To get this set-in grease out I would drill several very small holes into the stained area from the rear of the skull. Drill with about a 1/32" or so and be sure to keep all holes on the back of the skull along the edge where the stain is. Go deep enough to get into the voids in the skull so the degreaser can enter the skull bone and destroy the grease. Dawn dishwashing detergent will do the job. Pour it on heavily, inside the brain cavity and rub into those holes as much as you can- cover the whole skull with the soap and then submerge in water and place in a warm area for about a week or 10 days. Next remove and scrub all over with a soft brush and rinse. If there is still a stain resoak another week. Once you have a degreased skull you can rinse completely and then peroxide till you see the white you want, allow to dry. After drying repair the small holes with Apoxie-sculpt. It's a lot to do but peroxide alone will not fix this problem. Enjoy, Aaron H.
