Corsican Sheep

I was wonderin if you skin out a corsican sheep like you do with a deer head, Y-cut behind horns and such. Also how do you seperate the horns from the bones and how to clean them and with what. Then how long to let the horns dry before reappling them to the bone core. Thanks P.S. Also any tips that might be helpful on what to do when mounting them?

It is pretty much the same as a deer. On your Y cut make sure to leave yourself room to work. Sometimes depending on how far the horns sweep back they can get in your way. Alot of opinions on removing horns. I boil mine for about 45 minutes and they generally come right off. Put dp in the cores and bondo back together. Don't leave them apart to long or they will warp and be hard or impossible to get back together. Biggest problem with sheep and goats is the smell. Attack it hard a fast don't let up until it is gone. They have what George calls lanolin. You have to wash the piss out of them literally. Good luck.

Don't boil

Don't make the mistake and boil your horns. The horns are made of hair and they will abosorb all the grease and fluids that boil out of the bone and leftover meat and flesh. Two really good methods of removing the horns without boiling, one is smelly but works perfect. Cut the horns of the skull and place in bag and seal bag and place in somewhere out of your way. It usually takes a week or two but they will pull of with little effort. You may have to work the edge of the horn where the skin and horn met when you caped the head out. The other way is if you let the horn dry out. Turn the horns upside down to where you are looking at the brain cavitive and drill a hole through the skull plate up into the horn core. Pour water into the hole until filled, do both sides. Refill as water works into the bone, don't let it dry up check a few times a day. After a week you can bang the horns on the floor forehead first and the horns will pop off easily. You stand a good chance at turning the horns black or cause the horns to crack and split if you boil. John Cargill has a tape avalible on caring for sheep horns that is a step by step of properly caring and removal of sheep horns from fresh horns to reattaching the horns after preparing the skull. It is worth it to have the right info.
