Instructors in Bucks County, PA area

Submitted by Jim Mooney on 3/27/06 at 9:26 PM. ( ) 151.197.236.68

Hi,

I was signed up for a beginner bird taxidermy course at the local community college but it was canceled but I'd still like to learn it. Can anyone recommend an instructor or a place that offers classes in the Bucks County PA area. I'm in the lower part of the county closer to Philadelphia. Thanks for any info.

Take care,

Jim

There has been quite a lot of interest in lower Bucks. We intended to try a hands on taxidermy instruction similiar to the program that the ceramics craft has been doing for years. The Pa Game Com mandated that any taxidermy enterprise with fees could only administered at one permitted location. I was told that my permit was only good for one location and if a course was given elsewhere I would be slapped with a $500 fine. The Pa. Taxidermy Association is working to ammend the current permit system. Look me up on the PTA website and call or email me if I can help you.

Here is where the Game Commission should not go

What about when PA registered taxidermists give a seminar at the State Taxidermy meeting? Wouldn't there be fees for giving the seminar as well as for people who paid to see the seminar? It still blows my mind that an amateur taxidermist cannot enter the PA meeting and win a monetary prize because as an amateur he cannot make money doing taxidermy?

I salute the efforts of the PTA to get the Game Commision out of this business of regulation.

Jim, I have done some "head butting" on your behalf and Mark's as well. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason that you would not be able to attend or put on a seminar or teach taxidermy at any place you choose within the Commonwealth.
I contacted Ed Steffan, Chief of Technical Services--he's the guy that signs your taxidermy permit, and he is "checking into it". It would appear as though LES Lincoln of the SE Regional Office is up to his anti taxidermy tricks again. Lincoln is the same clown that tied up John Janelli and George Roof in so much red tape that the Cabela's seminars had to be cancelled. I butted heads with him on that and I will butt heads with him again on this issue. After Ed Steffan and Law Enforcement Director Mike Dubiach get done with Lincoln I will call him and invite him to the PTA convention next year so he can personally arrest every PTA member in attendance. After all, according to his twisted interpretation of the law, the PTA Convention is illegal.
Hopefully, when I get done with this issue, you'll be able to see LES Lincoln cleaning parking lots on a State Game Lands near you!

For more info on this feel free to give me a call.
