hair curling on whitetail mount

I mounted two deer this past week and both of them have spots on the shoulder or neck where the hair curled up. Anybody know why? By the way they were both dry tanned.

two ideas

It can be a chemical burn, and or it can be done manualy. I found that when I pull it over the form and grab a fistfull from the skin side and squeeze to hard, my fingers cause that when I pull. Thinning it on a beam after the tan can cause that also if you rub to hard trying to thin with a dull skive knife. IMO.

but it will lay back down

When it happens to me, I rehydrate that area and pack it with hair jell, and I don't just wipe it on, I pack it in all the way to the hair root with a heavy coat. The hair needs to be relaxed and dried lying down. Let the jell hold it overnight. I do this after mounting and while drying.

thanks

I will try that. I tried unfusium 23 but it didn't help a whole lot.
