how to make air brush work smoothly

Submitted by bob on 3/31/06 at 7:20 AM. ( RNTAXIDERMY@AOL.COM ) 205.188.117.72

i have a pache VL. most times i cant seem to get the flow to stay nice and smooth. i use mostly polytranspar and hydromist water based pait. white seems to be the worst. i use the bottle, not the cup, because the cup always seems to bubble up or i tilt it wrong and really mess things up. the paint doesnt splater like some i have read on here, i just dont flow smooth and even like i think is should. i have tried to thin down with retarder, and that helps on some paints. i run my pressure around 20-25#, 15- 20 on black. i have tried more and less pressure but found this to work the best. altho i have managed to do fairly well with it, i do fight it a lot. any help on this would be much apprediated.
thanks in advance.

Moisture in the air supply.

, use a moisture seperator at the tank. Then a body shop disposible cartridge filter at the connection to the a/b hose.

I paint with 35psi at the airbrush a small paint gun gauge is what I use.

Reason is some air hoses have a large amount of swell in them, and laying on the floor moisture can condense in the line, giving you eratic air pressure to the paint gun or AB.

Bubble up

If your cup bubbles up you have a blockage in your paint gun.

Clean tip, maybie dirt, or some other thing blocking it

That Air has got to go somewhwere, so if it ain't going out the front , then it's sure as heck will backfire, FYI White paint is, or has always been a big problem with the pigments and stuff. Most of you folks always have a hard time with white. ?
Makes you think about that hydro - mist, and mist in German means S**t so need I say more...

clean the airbrush real good ,when you put it back together put some airbrush oil lube on the needle. If you dont have any put some vasaline on it , and thin the paint where it is about like milk

The answers to trouble-shooting these problems are...

listed in any air brush owners manual. If you dont have the manual the company would probably gladly send you one if you contact them.

I've encountered some of what you listed and found the answers in my owners manual.

ok i will try some things. i do keep the brush clean, but several of you folks say it sounds like its not, so ill clean again and try to make it a little cleaner. see where that gets me. i do not have a moisture trap on my hose, so ill add one of those too.
thanks for the help.
