I live in ohio and this weekend is the ohio state taxidermy convention in lima. I called the convention center and they told me that i have to be a member of the ohio state taxidermy ass. to get in or pay $65.00 to sign up! I am new to the world of taxidermy and thought i would go to this convention and see if i could pick up some tips and maybe buy some supplies, but i am not sure if I want to fork out $65.00 right off untill i see that i really am going to get into taxidermy seriously. Does any one know is this usually how most convention's are that you have top be a member? Any input would be great.
thanks

How do you think the Ohio Association pays for the convention? If everyone just wanted to go and look around, and pick up a few supplies,do you think Ohio would go to all that trouble? Just pay the $65.00 and go as a member. If you don't like it, don't go back.
I gurantee that the knowledge you gain is worth a lot more than the $65.00

this will be my first show also..but one...65.00 you can save that in shipping if you buy alot of materials like myself..two..only so much of that is show cost and the rest registers you to the ohio taxidermy ass..so you are now registered ...

Usually...

...You have to be a member of the state association and there usually is a convention fee that allows you into the competition area, seminars and supplier area. That's the way it's been at all the state shows I've been to. Just like the NTA Shows. I've always saved much more on supplier discounts and shipping fees than the show cost to get in.

What an awesome show and it's only the first day. Frank Newmire bird seminar was great. Well worth the $$. Saturday they provide food for breakfast lunch and supper for you and your family. Right there is probably more than $65. Plus you get to rub elbows with some of the best in the world. I'm getting ready to go back to the show today.

Cost breakdown

A portion of that fee pays for a years dues to your Association, but the other part helps pay for all costs to put a show on. I had put many state shows together for my Association for many years. There are the costs to secure the facility and use the rooms. Most facilities charge for many of the little things such as podiums, mikes, trash baskets, setting up tables, tablecloths, coffee, water stations, tables for the mounts, etc, etc,. Then there are the fee's to pay your Judges, seminar speakers, their transportation, their lodging, meals, etc. When you look at the "Big Picture" of what your paying, there is no where you can go for that "little" money and acquire the knowledge you will be exposed to.
