Hair sticking up slightly

The football cut I did at the bullet hole dried with a small ridge that is making the hair stand up slightly (I did the cut perpendicular to the way the hair lays). I've read the archives and some say to hammer the seam down. Can this be done when the mount is completely dry (6 weeks old) or do I have to rehydrate the area? Can hammering the ridge down break the hairs? Should I just try some hair gel first?

You can tap it with a small hammer

And it doesn't need to be rehydrated. And I'd use the hair gell after I've tapped it with the hammer. Gell it an card it with screen.

You might be able to tap it down, but don't hold you breath. If the skin is set, it is set. To fix it, you will need to rehydrate and rework it. You could also try some hair gel. Again, a bandaid.

What you are seeing is most likely from your stiching. Either you have caught some hair in the stiches or you are pulling the stiching too tight. You might want to back off on the tension on the stiches. If you pull too tight, you create a roll of skin. The hair follows and roll and sticks up. Next time, just pull the stiches snug. It will allow the 2 pieces of skin to butt together as opposed to smashing together and rolling. With a little less pressure on the seam, you can press the seam down and let it flatten out.
